Solo Exhibition — Disenelo.Uncovered x Publicis

Post Exhibition Interview and Exhibition Opening Day Footage

The story’

All the pressure, all the stress, working on this was an eye opener to what is required to put on an exhibition, especially a solo exhibition! — It was interesting but it was definitely one for the books! I’m so grateful to the people who helped me, cause in reality this was the first time looking back identifying, mental health and taking time for self is essential at every milestone and every day.

Working closely with Publicis, was a blessing in disguise as I got a lot of coverage for the work I was doing in house as an Analyst. I noticed the space that was large in size and I’d always be setting up the space for events and different segments for all kinds of events and exhibitions.

Connecting with the on sites event manager, the efforts to put together an exhibition in the space often wasted, with white walls only. Often was dismissed due to distinctions of class in the art world, I wasn’t up there so to speak. But the climb is my own plus, I plan to do nothing that anyones done before.

I worked closely with a lot of people within the Head Office, that I was having a conversation with the CEO’s PA, as I was approached to do 2 art-boards outside the Head Office’s advertising stand.

She spoke advised me that I should ask about the exhibition, my work was definitely work putting on show and that I don’t know until I do something different! What a blessing she is and was then. I asked and got the nod, spoke to who I needed to and it was going ahead. Trust in yourself never let anyone who you feel isn’t actually a person who can make things happen for you be your fullstop.

The dates were in and the work had to start - I had to get a budget speak with drink management, events teams, setup Eventbrite invites, an art-board poster for outside and a poster for the event for internal, setup all within two weeks!! And had to get the artwork printed, arrange for people to serve drinks, send invites to family, friends and associates, also arranging confirmations. I forgot one main thing!!

I had to create an animation for 9 TV screens on loop and only had 1 night to finish it — let’s say it, not my best but definitely a good idea to execution!

The process:

First thing I started with was mapping out the space and how the best way to view and get maximum use of it, plus make it feel like an exhibition; I went to different exhibition shows for research making notes and taking pictures, here are some of the pictures of the the inside space before the exhibition date - yes that is one of the game of thrones doors.

Mocking up the exhibition space model.

After choosing the images it was time to get the mockup idea and everything into gear! It wasn’t with out it’s bumps in the road, buying frames, tasting alcohol, choose how many bottles, it was a great thing for me. ‘I just wanted to keep doing this and creating’ — I’m just not in the moment to realise it!

Editing Images to make sure they were setup, looked good, editing any issues digitally, making everything good in time for the event.

Breaking barriers is something that you’ll always get push back on but its definitely the drive you need in this life.

Internal Poster - A Board - Mockups for Print

Printing out artwork and getting them cut and mounted with a little help from some great internal people! Next putting them on the wall without damaging the interior wood or white walls!!

A task for me but I learnt something new!

Laying out the artwork ready for the wall mounting process after agreeing terms with the Building manager.

Now to get the animation, complete, make sure the drinks are cold and art is labeled with for sale costs, oh and I did the animation and the book pamphlet on the same night ! It was a moment of madness, i wasn’t in control of it, was a lot especially with how life was, just so many negatives, I learnt valuable lessons from this exhibition and I wouldn’t change it if I could. It’s the journey that makes us.

The previous week just before the exhibition I was also arranging an interview as a conversation struck with a good friend of mine, Wale - Wordless Media, we set up in the basement and got to shooting / we unfortunately had a few problems and it was the only day in the week he could do! We didn’t have the microphones and the air condition kept turning on and off during parts! Plus I don’t project much! Most would say if at all.
